We retired to the West Coast (Balsfjord) and didn’t find them so bad. Watch out for big biting flies in the North in July, too. Good summary of summer. Add birdwatching to the range of great possibilities. Migration starts in August and can be phenomenal.

Your comments about number of Polish passengers reminded me of our experience in January 2026. Wizzair still links our local airport to Gdansk, thus enabling many Polish workers to travel to the shipyard in Haugesund. Luckily for us there were some seats spare.
Gdansk was indeed a revelation. I particularly recommend the Museum of Gdansk in the old Town Hall. Fascinating building, both for its own complex history and for the quality of its displays. It provided a chillingly good overview of the reconstruction of the centre of Gdansk after the Soviets had levelled it. The museum staff were knowledgeable and keen to answer questions.
My other recommendation is the Museum of Amber. Very modern and scientific with excellent displays, housed in a building that has gone through many iterations!

She stated that she could not imagine going as far away from Norway as America, but having said that, she only went back to Norway 3 times after she married an English man. I have an inbuilt love of Norway, and celebrate 17th May each year, as well as having as many visits to Norway as possible.

Yes, I’ve crossed many times, never doused with cold water, thank goodness. In 2025, we returned South from the Arctic on 22 July 2025, experiencing 30 Celsius. This year, on 13th July it was a more reasonable 18 Celsius. Not only is there an Arctic warming, but three or four places in the Arctic are warming even more than others, and Norway is one of them.
We were amused that the ‘strictly accurate’ line through the Arctic Circle Centre was at least 400m too far south. However, the information in the Centre about the Arctic Circle was quite good – and confirmed all you wrote – and entry was free. This is quite a contrast to the visitor centre at Nordkapp.

Choice has increased dramatically since I moved to Norway in 2006. Although I was depressed when first Meny closed where I live, followed closely by ICA.
